Best Apps for Food Lovers: 23 Foodie Apps

Best Apps for Food Lovers

Whether I am researching restaurants for my blog, planning a weekend getaway, or trying to remember an amazing meal I had months ago, there are a handful of apps I rely on constantly. The best apps for food lovers make dining out easier, help you discover hidden gems, save money, organize recipes, and even improve your food photography.

After 30+ years of writing about restaurants and travel, these are the apps I use most often and recommend to fellow foodies.

Best Apps for Food Lovers Who Want to Discover New Restaurants

Google Maps

Google Maps is one of the best apps for food lovers because it does much more than provide directions. I use it to save restaurants into custom lists, read reviews, browse photos, and quickly see what is nearby when I am traveling.

One feature I especially like is the ability to create lists for future trips. Before visiting a new city, I save every restaurant that looks interesting so I can see them all on one map. You can create private lists, share them with friends, or collaborate on lists.

Yelp

Yelp remains one of the biggest players in restaurant discovery and review content. Because it has such a large user base, you’ll often find hundreds, or even thousands, of reviews for popular restaurants, along with menus, photos, operating hours, and other useful details. That massive amount of content makes it one of the best apps for food lovers who want to research a restaurant before visiting.

That said, Yelp is not perfect. Reviews can sometimes be overly negative, outdated, or based on a single bad experience. Some excellent restaurants have surprisingly low ratings, while others with mediocre food can score well because of factors unrelated to the dining experience. I rarely make decisions based solely on the star rating.

Atmosfy

Atmosfy is a social discovery app that helps you find restaurants, bars, cafes, and experiences through short videos posted by real users. Unlike traditional review platforms, Atmosfy focuses on showing what a restaurant looks like, what the food looks like, and what the overall experience is like before you visit. It is quickly becoming one of the best apps for food lovers who enjoy discovering new places through video and want more context before spending money on a meal. It covers 150 countries and 10,000 cities, and includes a “Passport” feature that lets users track every place they’ve visited.

Beli

This app is getting a lot of attention right now. Beli is a social app that lets you track, rank, and share restaurant experiences with friends. You don’t just rate a restaurant; you slot it into personal ranked lists. It’s become popular with serious diners who want recommendations from people they trust, not strangers.

Best Apps for Food Lovers Who Want Reservations

OpenTable

OpenTable remains one of the largest restaurant reservation platforms in the world, with tens of thousands of participating restaurants. It also offers a rewards program that lets diners earn points toward future dining credits.

For most people, OpenTable is one of the best apps for food lovers simply because of its extensive restaurant network and simple booking process. Important to note that points expire if your account is inactive for 12 months, and 1,000 points equal $10 in dining rewards.

Resy

If you enjoy chef-driven restaurants and hard-to-book dining experiences, Resy deserves a place on your phone. Its Notify feature can alert you when reservations become available at popular restaurants. Resy is particularly strong in major food cities.

In summer 2026, American Express (the owner) is merging Tock into Resy, which will roughly double its restaurant listings to more than 25,000 venues and add prepaid booking options to the platform.

Tock

Tock is widely used by tasting-menu restaurants, chef’s counters, and special dining events. Many sought-after fine-dining establishments use Tock rather than traditional reservation systems.

Worth knowing: American Express, which also owns Resy, is shutting down Tock as a standalone app in summer 2026 and folding its restaurant listings into Resy. If you currently use Tock, start using Resy instead.

Best Apps for Food Lovers Who Want to Save Money

Too Good To Go

Too Good To Go partners with restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores, and cafes to sell surplus food that would otherwise go to waste.

It is one of the best apps for food lovers who enjoy discovering new places while spending less money. Depending on the business, you can often purchase a surprise bag of food for a fraction of the regular price. Because it is a mystery bag, you have no control over what you get.

Restaurant Rewards Apps

Many restaurant chains offer loyalty apps that provide free items, discounts, and exclusive promotions. If you frequently visit the same restaurants, these rewards can add up surprisingly quickly.

Some of the popular apps are Starbucks, Chipotle, McDonald’s, Panera, Subway, Taco Bell, and Chick-fil-A.

inKind

inKind provides funding by purchasing a restaurant’s food and beverage credit upfront, which it then sells to diners, giving restaurants capital and patrons savings. It has a small network but tends to partner more closely with independent restaurants.

Franki

If you enjoy trying new restaurants but do not want to pay full price, Franki is worth exploring. It is one of the apps for food lovers looking to stretch their dining budget. The biggest drawbacks are that restaurant participation varies by market, so the selection may be limited unless you live in a major city, and having to register each time you dine and upload receipts can be burdensome.

Best Apps for Food Lovers Who Cook at Home

NYT Cooking

NYT Cooking offers thousands of tested recipes with clear instructions and useful tips. It has become one of the most trusted recipe platforms available today.

Whether you are making a simple weeknight dinner or preparing for a dinner party, it is one of the best apps for food lovers who enjoy cooking.

Instacart

Instacart makes grocery shopping simple by allowing you to order from local stores and have groceries delivered directly to your home.

It offers unmatched convenience and pairs customers with a personal shopper who can text in real-time to suggest substitutions if an item is out of stock.

Paprika

Paprika is a popular kitchen tool. It allows you to save recipes from websites, organize them into categories, create meal plans, and generate shopping lists.

Among the best apps for food lovers, Paprika stands out because it helps keep everything organized in one place.

Yummly

A widely used recipe app with personalized recommendations and meal planning. It’s been around for years and has a large following, though it’s more mainstream than NYT Cooking.

Best Apps for Food Lovers Who Travel

Google Translate

If you travel internationally, Google Translate can be incredibly useful when reading menus. The camera feature can translate text in real time, making it much easier to understand unfamiliar dishes.

Michelin Guide

The Michelin Guide app lists restaurants that have been reviewed by Michelin inspectors worldwide. You can filter by star rating, location, and cuisine type. It’s useful when planning a food-focused trip, and you want to know which restaurants in a city are considered worth a detour or a special visit.

That said, Michelin coverage is uneven. It’s strong in Europe, Japan, and major U.S. cities like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. If you’re heading somewhere off the beaten path, you may not find much.

Eater

Not a booking or navigation tool, but it’s a premier food journalism outlet offering news, reviews, and city guides. Many food travelers use it to research a city’s dining scene before they go. It has city-specific guides for major destinations.

Best Apps for Food Lovers Who Share Food Photos

Snapseed

Snapseed is free and perfect for quick edits. I often use it to brighten photos, straighten images, and make dishes look closer to how they appeared in person.

These are among the best apps for food lovers who enjoy sharing meals on social media.

Lightroom Mobile

A few quick adjustments can transform a good food photo into a great one. Lightroom Mobile offers professional-level editing tools while remaining easy to use.

VSCO

VSCO is widely used by food bloggers alongside Lightroom. Known for its film-style presets. Many food content creators use it as an alternative to Lightroom for a warmer, less processed look.

Best Apps for Food Lovers Who Create Content

Canva

Canva makes it easy to create graphics for social media, blog posts, newsletters, and promotional content.

Later

Later helps schedule social media content and keeps posting organized across multiple platforms.

Food apps work best when you treat them like tools, not subscriptions to collect. Pick the ones that fit how you actually eat, like hunting for the next great meal, cooking more at home, or making sure you never forget a dish worth going back for. A few of the right apps will do more for you than all of them combined.

FAQ's

Google Maps and Yelp are the top picks for restaurant discovery. Google Maps lets you save spots into custom lists and see what’s nearby. Yelp has the largest volume of reviews and photos, though ratings alone shouldn’t guide your decision.

Both handle reservations for chef-driven and fine-dining restaurants. But American Express, which owns both, is folding Tock into Resy in summer 2026. Resy’s listings will roughly double to more than 25,000 venues. If you use Tock now, switch to Resy.

Too Good To Go lets you buy surplus food from restaurants and bakeries at a discount, though you don’t know what you’ll get. Other options include Franki, inKind, and restaurant loyalty apps like Starbucks or Chipotle rewards.

Paprika lets you save recipes from any website, sort them into categories, and build shopping lists. NYT Cooking and Yummly are good alternatives if you want a built-in recipe library instead.

Google Translate. Its camera feature translates text in real time, which makes it easy to figure out unfamiliar dishes on a menu abroad.
