Borrego Rooftop Restaurant in Gaslamp Quarter

We have the perfect weather in San Diego to enjoy rooftop bars. On a warm summer evening, sitting outdoors, and enjoying the city view is wonderful. The newly opened Borrego Rooftop is on the ninth floor of Hotel Indigo in our historic Gaslamp Quarter, and has a spectacular view of Petco Park.

Your experience begins when you enter the elevator – as the imagery sets you up for your experience. And after setting foot on the rooftop, you realize you made a great decision. The views are spectacular, and the modern and stylish seating ranges from bar, casual, along the glass wall, to cozy fire pit areas.

Borrego Rooftop is located in the Gaslamp Quarter – if you are going to a Padres game, this is a wonderful location to grab some drinks and food before it starts. The night we dined, there was a game, and it was so energizing seeing diners wearing their brown shirts and hats.

I would recommend both of the drinks I got, the Sonoran Sunset and Borrego Margarita.  The flavor and sweetness in the Sonoran Sunset from the aged rum, amaretto, pineapple, and prickly pear, make it one of the best cocktails I’ve enjoyed this year.

We took all of our servers’ recommendations for dinner, and so pleased we did. All the dishes are desert-inspired (and that includes the cocktails). The menu is California-style with lots of fresh seasonal produce and seafood. The ceviche is a great appetizer to share.   There’s a little heat from the jalapeños, and you can taste the quality of the fish.

The Roasted Halibut was my favorite dish on the menu.  I’d highly recommend it, and order it again.  I loved the flavor from the chimichurri and sunchoke purée.

Jicama and daikon with house-made chamoy, figs, apricots and hibiscus

Fries with burnt garlic-chili oil, and smoky piquillo sauce

The food was delicious, the cocktails were unique and creative, the decor and seating is warm and intimate, and the service was outstanding – it’s so evident how much their team enjoys working there.

No doubt Borrego Rooftop will be a popular location for guests at the hotel, people going to the Padres game, tourists, and locals looking for a vibrant restaurant.

Some of my favorite restaurants are located in the Gaslamp Quarter.  I love the vibrancy of the evening scene, boutique stores, and entertainment available to visitors.
