Cooking plantains at home easier than you’d imagine

We were headed to a theme party last weekend and had to bring a side dish, so I selected to make plantains to go with the steak that the host was making.  I love having them when I dine at a churrascaria, but have never made them before.  After a bit of research, I found out that it was as easy as 1-2 -3.

Step 1:
For 8 adults and 4 kids, I got 6 plantain bananas from my local supermarket (you can’t use regular bananas).  Cut off the ends of the plantains, slide a knife down a side to peal the entire skin off (they don’t peel like a regular banana).  Cut horizontally into two pieces, then slice each half into four slices.

Step 2:
Drop the plantains into a pan of hot oil.  Cook on each side for 4 minutes. They should be golden brown.

Step 3:
Remove from the oil and remove some of the excess oil using a paper towel.

All that’s left is to eat and enjoy.  As simple as 1-2-3.
