Kiiro Sushi Lands in Sports Arena District

Kiiro Sushi Izakaya

Sushi is an art, and that is exactly what I witnessed as I saw chef KT at Kiiro Sushi Izakaya carefully slice into pieces of toro. Tucked away in San Diego’s Sports Arena District, Kiiro Sushi just opened last week. But it already feels like a hidden gem. The service was top-notch and friendly. The vibe was cozy and inviting. But the real star was the sushi.

Quality First: The Chef’s Dedication to Fresh Fish

With much pride, Chef KT explained that he sources Kiiro Sushi’s bluefin tuna from Spain, halibut from South Korea, amberjack from Japan, salmon from Faro islands, and sea urchin from local Santa Barbara.

Combine the fresh fish with chefs’ delicate and beautifully plated dishes, you can taste the passion in every bite. If you love sushi (even just a little), you need to check this place out.

The daily specials are handwritten on a board at Kiiro Sushi. Many of them are featured in the chef’s choice sashimi moriawase. Seriously, this sashimi looks almost too pretty to eat… almost. When the chef picks the best, you know you’re in for a treat. Fresh, vibrant, and absolutely delicious – the sashimi is an absolute standout on the menu.

Fresh, High-Quality Sushi That Stands Out

The nigiri is just as spectacular at Kiiro Sushi. Chef KT uses a pickled wasabi that adds a spicy kick and aroma to some of the pieces.  You can either order your favorite nigiri, or let the chef choose for you.

In addition to rolls, sashimi, and sushi that you would expect to find at a sushi restaurant, Kiiro Sushi Izakaya also offers some signature dishes that are well worth trying. I’ll be back, as I didn’t get a chance to try any of the rolls.  I want to try the 911 (In/spicy tuna Out/avocado mayo, honey mustard). And the Kamikaze (In/shishito pepper Out/yellowtail, avo/ponzu, kizame wasabi, tobiko eggs). Both sounded really good to me.

Kiiro Sushi Izakaya also offers Korean dishes including ramen, edamame, and corn cheese, so there is something on the menu for everyone.

If Kiiro Sushi Izakaya continues to source such high-quality fish, I have no doubt that getting a table will not be easy, and it is likely to make it to my list of best sushi restaurants in San Diego
