Leu Leu in Leucadia has stepped into a new chapter. With Chef Jason Ambacher now leading the kitchen, it is focused and ready to be a standout restaurant. After one meal, it is clear this restaurant is on its way to becoming a hotspot in North County.
The menu at Leu Leu is small, but it shows confidence and represents the dishes that have made Chef Jason so popular. Overall, my dining experience, including the food, vibes, and service, was memorable, from start to finish.
Chef Jason Ambacher arrives at Leu Leu with serious credentials. He has worked in Michelin-recognized kitchens where discipline, technique, and precision matter every day. Most recently, he was at Oceanside’s Dija Mara, a Balinese-inspired restaurant that earned coveted Michelin Bib Gourmand honors. You can tell he’s cooked in some serious kitchens, as everything feels really dialed in without being overcomplicated.
Honestly, everything we ordered was really good. The marinated olives with lemon, fennel, oregano, and garlic were bright and addictive. The rose snapper ceviche with Meyer lemon and Castelvetrano olive zhoug was delicious and spicy. The Smyrna-style meatballs in spiced tomato sauce with whipped feta, mint, caper berries, and bulgur were comforting. The dishes were beautifully presented and are perfect for sharing.
Two dishes I would highly recommend at Leu Leu are the salad and market fish.
The roasted winter vegetable salad, filled with farmers’ market produce (including beets and potatoes), savory granola, kale, arugula, feta, and sweet onion dressing, was fresh and unique.
The market fish is snapper served over orzotto with harissa tomato jam, chermoula, and capers, and showed real technical skill. If they sold their harissa tomato jam, I’d buy a jar in a heartbeat.

The experience starts at the hostess stand, before you even step inside. The front door and handle are striking and set the tone immediately. Inside, Leu Leu is well-designed with decor that is stylish. The lighting, textures, and layout all work together, especially in the area around the DJ stage. Outside, it captures the relaxed coastal vibe while still feeling refined. Every detail feels considered.
With Chef Jason Ambacher at the helm, it is not just another neighborhood spot. It will become one of the most exciting restaurants in North County.
