Little Fawn is one of those restaurants that reminds me why I love going out to eat. The space is small, but mighty, and from the moment we sat down, everything felt exceptional. I had this strong feeling that I was going to love it from the minute I entered. Little Fawn feels like it knows exactly what type of restaurant it is, and it executes that vision really well.
I have given Oceanside restaurants a lot of love over the last 10 years, and I honestly feel like they deserve it. With a Michelin-starred restaurant Valle, and restaurants that are truly standout like Wrench & Rodent, The Plot, 24 Suns, and Allmine, all on my list of best Restaurants in Oceanside.
We ordered a mix of smaller and larger plates, and every dish impressed us. The roasted butternut squash and roasted carrots were beautifully plated and thoughtfully put together. The yellowtail crudo was fresh and delicious, with just enough acidity to make it stand out. Each plate looked stunning when it arrived at the table and tasted just as incredible. Little Fawn clearly cares about both presentation and flavor, and it shows in every bite.
For our mains, the branzino and Mary’s organic chicken thighs were standouts. The branzino was cooked perfectly (tender and flaky), and the flavor was fresh. The chicken thighs were juicy, flavorful, and I’d highly recommend them. These are the kinds of dishes you want to order again, but they also make you curious about everything else on the menu. Little Fawn has me wanting to come back soon and eat my way through the rest of the menu.
The cocktail program deserves its own recognition. We ordered “Just in from Arizona”, “Deez Coconuts”, and “The One the Owner Likes”, and every drink was really well made. Balanced, thoughtful, and not overly sweet. You can tell the bar team knows what they’re doing. The cocktails complemented the food, which isn’t always easy to pull off. Little Fawn takes its drinks as seriously as its food.
Owner Jon Rhinerson is a former Los Angeles fashion designer who created apparel for celebrities like Usher and Hayden Panettiere. With Lebanese heritage influencing the menu’s Mediterranean flair, he co-owned Échalé in Encinitas before opening Little Fawn in Oceanside. His design eye shapes the restaurant’s mid-century vibe, curated soundtrack, and warm, personal hospitality.
Executive Chef Seth Tuma brings serious expertise to Little Fawn with experience at La Valencia, Fox Restaurant Concepts (including five years at Flower Child), and Échalé. He fuses Southern roots with California seasonality and Mediterranean brightness. Watching him prepare dishes in the kitchen, you can see his passion as a chef.
The team works well together, which tells you they’ve been doing this for a long time. Little Fawn is a place built by people who truly know their craft, and it shows from start to finish.
Little Fawn is located inside the historic The Fin Hotel. It’s a charming boutique property from the Tapestry Collection by Hilton that dates back to 1927. The restaurant thrives in a landmark setting that blends preserved vintage details (e.g., the original lobby floor tiles and Tiffany-style windows) with modern, design-forward elegance.
