I am a San Diegan and have lived here for 31 years, so seeing so many Michelin restaurants San Diego listed in the guide means a lot to me. I have watched this city’s food scene grow and change over time. Today, we have true world-class dining across many neighborhoods. The chefs here are creative, thoughtful, and serious about their craft. This recognition shows how much San Diego has evolved and how strong our restaurant community has become.
Only a small number of Michelin restaurants San Diego earn Michelin stars. The rest are still recommended by Michelin, but without the star designation. A Michelin Guide mention does not mean fine dining or tasting menus. Some spots are casual and affordable, while others are more upscale. What they share is consistent food quality.
The 2026 Michelin Guide brought both good news and disappointment for San Diego. Lucien earned the city’s only new Michelin Star, while Lilo and Addison retained their stars. Valle lost its star, reminding us just how difficult it is to earn and keep Michelin recognition.

Hi Darryl, Thanks for putting this guide together. Very helpful as is the rest of your website.
I wanted to point out a mislabeling in this list. You characterize Atelier Manna as a Best for: Intimate date nights when it’s a brunch only restaurant. Might want to fix this.
Keep the good stuff coming!
Steve
You are 100% correct Steve, and I updated the description. Can I hire you as a proofreader? 🙂
I don’t think you’ll like my rates!😂
