My first impression of Valle de Guadalupe, Baja Mexico, was as a destination for wine tasting or for Michelin-star dining. But after spending a relaxing weekend at Montevalle Resort & Spa, I now understand why it is also a popular destination for wellness retreats and spa resorts. The natural beauty of the lush vineyards, landscape, hills, and Mediterranean-like climate is so peaceful and relaxing. After a 2 1/2 hour drive from San Diego, I felt like we had escaped the normality of our normal routine. I understand why they advise you to arrive, park your car, and not go back to it until you leave.
Our stay at Montevalle Resort can be summed up as relaxing, filled with luxurious spa treatments, farm-to-table meals, wine, farm-to-table meals, and luxury accommodation. All set in the beauty of this beautiful wine country.
Valle de Guadalupe has a good mix of hotels that are in the winelands. Search current availability on Booking.com – If you book through them, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
All of the accommodations at Montevalle Resort are in private villas. Each has a spectacular view. They are well separated from each other, with gorgeous olive trees adding so much privacy. The attention to detail in each room, as far as comfort and relaxation are concerned, is very evident. The casitas have an upstairs area with a skylight and seating, but I loved the private patio. It was a great area to relax in chairs or the hammock. From our room, we have a lovely view of the vineyards, olive trees, and lavender plants.
It’s one of the most relaxing and peaceful rooms I have stayed in. The room is well furnished with comfortable chairs, premium coffee, carafes of water, and a very spacious bathroom. From our bed, the view of the vineyards and neighboring areas was spectacular.
The restaurant is one of the most impressive buildings at Montevalle Resort. Situated right at the top of the hill, the view is spectacular. Whether you sit on the outdoor patio or inside with giant glass windows, you have a great view. There is so much attention to detail in the restaurant. It’s both luxurious and relaxing.
The food and ambiance add to the health and wellness at the resort. There is a small menu that changes regularly, and the dishes are both creative and healthy. 80% of the vegetables served come from the chef’s garden. I went to check out the garden filled with varieties of tomatoes, peppers, and squash.
I loved that the restaurant was exclusive to guests at Montevalle Resort. You have to stay at the resort to enjoy the restaurant. That added to the tranquility of our stay. They have several wines on the menu, but they also serve two wines from the Montevalle vineyard. You cannot buy the wine, so the only place to enjoy it is at the restaurant. They have rosé and red wine.
The food was absolutely delicious, and you could taste the quality of the farm-to-table dishes. Having dinner at the restaurant and watching the sunset over the valley was mesmerizing.
Montevalle is owned by Dr. Bautista, a Board-Certified Medical Doctor from Universidad Autónoma de Baja California. As a medical practitioner and holistic health expert, he wanted to create a resort where you can relax and recharge – both your body and your mind. The spa is modern, luxurious, and relaxing, and the view from the treatment room is unparalleled. It was very evident how much the staff at the spa are passionate about their job and working at Montevalle Resort.
Montevalle Resort offers a range of Wellness Packages from a 5-Day Wellness Plan to individual services. In addition to massages, they have holistic therapies intended to boost your immune system and detoxify your body. They include detoxification, immune stimulation, anti-inflammatory, and hyperbaric. We also enjoyed the intravenous infusions but I will have to go back as I missed out on trying their wine therapy.
Montevalle Resort has a stunning outdoor pool that offers incredible views, and lots of private seating areas. I really appreciated that after my wellness treatments, you can still enjoy the tranquility of the resort.
On the way to our resort, we visited the wineries and ate some local cuisine in Valle de Guadalupe. Once we checked in, we took advantage of the resort’s amenities and didn’t feel the need to leave the property. If you plan to explore the area, you will find that the hotel is central to the wineries.
The luxurious, serene, and charming Montevalle Resort makes it a great choice for a relaxing and reflecting vacation. I would return because of the attentiveness of the staff, personalization of our experience, private accommodations, and excellent food. Whether you are traveling alone, as a couple, or with a group seeking relaxation, you should consider a wellness retreat at Montevalle Resort.
