San Diego Happy Hours

HAPPY HOURS YOU ARE GOING TO WANT TO VISIT RIGHT NOW

You worked hard all day, so you deserve a high-five in the form of discounted drinks and food.  It’s the perfect excuse to gather with friends for some deals on cocktails and food. People ask me about “San Diego Happy Hours” almost daily.

Mia's

$8 for three significantly sized beef picadillo empanadas, with chimichurri aioli and peanut chipotle sauce is the go-to items on the new happy hour menu at Mia’s in Solana Beach (where ALCE 101 used to be). The fish taco is $3 and tasted fantastic, but you’d need three to be enough for a meal; the smaller ceviche is delicious and a generous size for $10. The cocktails are $10. This one of the best San Diego happy hours and is available Tuesday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.

wORMWOOD

Wormwood has a happy hour that they call L’Heure Verte.  It should be on everyone’s list of San Diego Happy Hours. You can get oysters for $1 served with sides (max 12 per guest). They also have a Fromages Et Charcuterie Board where you can choose 3 of your favorite cheeses and meats.   They also have the Madeline (buckwheat, whipped herb fromage, and trout roe). This dish was one of the standouts from a recent dinner, and $6 for this dish is a deal.  Wines are $10, and cocktails  are $10/12.

ROPPONGI

Roppongi La Jolla has reopened after 10 years, in the same location as where it was in 1998. Restaurateur Sami Ladeki is back. And they have a HH daily from 2 pm to 5 pm. The deal includes 50% of all the Asian tapas (24 dishes), including the ahi poke, salt & pepper wings, Japanese hot rock, lamb chops, crispy lobster, and hamachi tacos. $2 off signature cocktails.

Lucrezia

Lucrezia does aperitivo hour every day from 3 to 5 p.m. at the bar. Last time I went, they had oysters on the half shell, arancini, and meatballs. But the standout for me was the fried chicken with caviar and crème fraîche. I didn’t expect it to work, but it really did. The crème fraîche cuts through the richness of the chicken in the best way. They’ve also got some solid cocktails (try the barrel-aged old-fashioned or a Manhattan). This spot has one of the best San Diego happy hours in town.

RUSTIC ROOT

Rustic Root opened a second location in Solana Beach. It is exactly what North County needed for San Diego Happy Hours. I am a big fan of the Gaslamp Quarter location. But I have to say that the Solana Beach location is nicer.  Plus, their happy hour is seven days a week, and they have plenty of parking. Go for happy hour, and stay for dinner. Locals rave about the cocktails at this San Diego happy hours menu.

Ponce's Mexican Restaurant

Ponce’s in Kensington has been family-run since 1969 and remains a staple for San Diego Happy Hours. Locals love it, and for good reason. Happy hour is daily from 2 to 5 p.m. Think $7 margaritas, $5 for three tacos (just order a drink), and $1 off beers. You can mix and match your tacos and enjoy them. Carne asada, pollo asado, carnitas, shrimp, fried fish, grilled veggies. The tacos here make their San Diego happy hours worth the trip.

Get a Cilantro Jalapeno marg from their San Diego Happy Hour to go with it ($11).  Monday through Sunday: 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
