It has a little kick from chili, all topped with crunchy peanuts. I also love the huge variety of dishes, including dishes like noodles, rice, and soups. Everything about Sovereign Thai is impressive. The dishes are reflective of the traditional Isaan style of cooking. It differs from central Thai dishes. Try the chicken satay slider, spicy Lao papaya bluefin salad, and whole-fried local red snapper. The restaurant was recognized in the Michelin Guide in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Guy Fieri loved it when he visited for a Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins & Dives episode. The recipe for the rockfish was published on Food Network. Check before going as it is open for dinner nightly, and lunch from Wednesday through Sunday. San Diego Thai food like this is easy to love.
SIAM NARA
If you are following my Instagram feed, then you already know I love Siam Nara. After visiting Thailand, I came back to San Diego and searched for authentic Thai food. I found it here. Not only do they take so much pride in the flavor, but also in the presentation. I do have my favorites here, but everything I have tried has been so tasty. If you’re looking for curry, I would recommend getting the massaman beef curry; the flavor is exceptional. This Thai restaurant offers a variety of delicious and authentic dishes. This San Diego Thai restaurant has something for everyone.
koon thai
You can see from my posts that I’m a regular customer. The food here is a variation of modern Thai. You will find both traditional and inventive dishes on the menu. Their Tom Ka soup is superb. I ordered it the first time I went, and it’s a must-order dish for me. I love the Massaman Lamb Shank with Roti, and Khao Soi Kai. The Pla Pad Cha is deep-fried fish until golden brown. The restaurant is located on Convoy Street. Their San Diego Thai dishes work well for takeout.
KIN len
I found Kin Len Thai Street Eats while walking to another place. I stopped to see what the long line was for. We changed our plans and ate here instead. There’s a reason why this restaurant is so well-rated. I would rank it high for the quality of the food, ambiance, and service. The focus is on street food, and the décor will have you feeling like you are in Thailand. The Hat Yai Chicken & Curry and Khao Soi Noodle are incredible. Most San Diego Thai places serve bold flavors.
chaba thai
I’ve been a customer at Chaba Thai for 15 years. Between dining there and getting takeouts for home or work, I’ve loved their food. I keep on getting my favorite dishes, like the panang and yellow curry, pad Thai, and satay. Occasionally, I try something new. Everything is delicious and reminds me of the food I would get in Thailand. The restaurant is not fancy. But the prices are amazing, the portions are generous, and the servers are so friendly. I love that you get a complimentary dessert when you dine here. San Diego Thai food is known for its bold flavors and fresh ingredients.
Kiin Extraordinary Thai
If you like Thai food that is spicy, you will definitely want to visit Kiin Thai. On my first visit, I went for my normal medium spicy, which was way too hot for me. Luckily, I learned that they can customize the heat level. The food is consistently good, and I love that I generally have leftovers for the next day. If you have room, start with a soup. This is the same restaurant group that owns Plumeria Thai in Encinitas and University Heights. They have some of the best San Diego Thai and pad Thai. It is located in the Sky Deck.
Aaharn thai
There are three locations of Aaharn Thai (University City, Rancho Peñasquitos, and Kettner Boulevard). Make sure you look at their spice scale as it leans towards spicy, especially with the curry. The portion size is generous, and the food is served hot and fresh. The menu is extensive, so you are likely to find your favorite Thai dish. San Diego Thai spots serve everything from classic curries to tasty noodle dishes.
Plumeria Encinitas
Everything on the menu at Plumeria Encinitas is vegetarian. With lots of gluten-free and vegan options. It’s some of the best Thai food in North County. The restaurant is casual and has indoor and outdoor seating. I’d recommend the curry, especially the panang and yellow flavors. If you are not a fan of “mock protein, get the vegetable option instead. The heat level in San Diego Thai food can vary a lot. It is spicier here.
