As someone who’s called San Diego home for more than 35 years and has a real passion for its restaurants, I’m always on the lookout for fresh additions to the scene. Suzette Chula Vista, serving authentic French dishes, opened in Downtown Chula Vista and has quickly established itself as a standout.
Suzette Chula Vista is in a welcoming setting that feels like a true neighborhood restaurant with a strong sense of community. This French-inspired restaurant offers breakfast and lunch service Wednesday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to around 2:30 – 4:30 p.m., depending on the day.
Suzette Chula Vista has earned a well-deserved spot on my list of the best brunches in San Diego.
Chef Omar Armas, who trained at the renowned Apicius International School of Hospitality in Florence, Italy, brings extensive experience from Michelin-influenced kitchens worldwide and previous roles, including Wormwood in San Diego and his own Mantou Gastropub in Ensenada. He continues to serve as Executive Chef at Wormwood while leading the kitchen at Suzette Chula Vista. Chef Armas is genuinely proud of his dishes at Suzette Chula Vista, emphasizing the freshest ingredients and lovely fresh produce to ensure every dish shines.
He is joined by partners Jerome Gombert, a respected restaurateur known for Vagabond in South Park, and Chef Marcelo Hisaki, whose global perspective adds depth to the menu. This collaboration results in precise, thoughtful cuisine that honors French traditions while incorporating subtle influences and creating an inviting atmosphere where guests feel immediately at home.
The menu at Suzette Chula Vista highlights classic French breakfast and brunch offerings prepared with remarkable care. Bakers arrive at 5 a.m. to produce freshly baked French pastries and breads that set a high standard. The Cinnamon Croissant Roll and Chocolate Croissant stand out as easily the best I’ve encountered in San Diego, featuring a perfectly buttery, flaky dough. The tomato quiche was exceptionally fluffy and delicious, delivering balanced savory flavors.
The Avocado & Egg with Japanese mayo at Suzette Chula Vista impressed me with its flawless presentation and taste. It’s a 10/10 dish I would order on every visit. The Salmon Crêpe was deliciously satisfying, while the Crêpes Suzette and Seasonal Berry Crêpe were perfect in their sweetness and freshness. Every item we ordered was superb, beautifully plated, and reflective of the kitchen’s commitment to quality. I am confident that the full menu maintains this consistent level of excellence.
Suzette Chula Vista evokes the feeling of a day in Paris, particularly with its array of favorite French breakfast dishes and warm decor. The 1,800-square-foot interior features a cozy palette of orange, aqua, and off-white. It includes cozy bar seating, a comfortable dining area, and outdoor options, striking a balance between casual elegance and approachability. Situated on vibrant Third Avenue in Downtown Chula Vista, the location is easily accessible with plenty of parking nearby.
Suzette Chula Vista is an outstanding choice for those seeking French dining in a warm, approachable environment. As your guide to San Diego’s best eats, I highly recommend experiencing it firsthand. Whether for a leisurely breakfast, brunch, or to anticipate the upcoming dinner service. It provides a delightful escape to French cuisine right here in South Bay.

Crepes at a French restaurant sounds interesting. Did you try any special flavors?
I had both sweet and savory crepes, and they were both delicious.
I tasted the most delicious avocado croissant & egg toast with Japanese mayo three months ago and I’ve ordered it three times since then. Yesterday, I decided to try the honey and toasted almonds crepe and was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was. So, now, I have two favorites . ❤️
I whole heartedly recommend this quaint little French restaurant with the friendly staff to all my friends and family.
I think it is really nice of you to write such a glowing comment for Suzette. We agree – our meal there was really exceptional and I hope more people go there to enjoy their food as they will not be disappointed.
I’ve been lunching in the Chula Vista, 3rd Avenue recently….I will have to keep this place in mind for my next visit!!
